OK my friends. Now you know why I love my co-worker Bill Avington. He steps in for me when I am unable to get to this keyboard. But as Jack Nicholson said in "The Shining"-I'M BACK!!!!! Need to share a historic first for Beth and Hawktion. First time I have ever been home by 8 pm the night before Hawktion since usually last minute fires to put out. But this year-UNBELIEVABLE what the gang of volunteers has pulled off. Seriously, guaranteed good time tomorrow night. I am so darn excited. Great people have put in lots of time because they LOVE what we are doing. It will show tomorrow night. When I left tonight, Prep Parent Killion's were putting even MORE lights up to give the field house a "glow". The colors of the place are unbelievable. The gifts are over the top. And gals, wait until you see the updated "$20 Table " called GRAB BAG. So much darn fun. For the men, funny as hell "Swamp Shack" (aka Man Cave). And will now type in CAPITAL letters since it means I am screaming.....BEST RSVP'S TO DATE. OVER 600 PREP PEEPS COMING! AND WE STILL HAVE ROOM. WALK UPS ARE WELCOME SINCE WE KNEW THE WORD WOULD SPREAD AND WE PUT EXTRA TABLES IN. (I am still screaming thus the CAPS). AWESOME BEERS ON TAP COMPLIMENTS OF QUOTATIONS RESTAURANT IN MEDIA! Come on people, come to the party. It will be one helluva time!!!!!! Thanks Bill...........you were superb in spreadin' the word.
Bill again... Just had the chance to walk through the silent auction tables...what an impressive group of items. You will want to be here to bid on these items. Some great examples: a wooden chair made from hockey sticks (yes, hockey sticks, it's awesome!), an SJP keganator, a quilt made from SJP t-shirts, autographed jerseys from players like Claude Giroux, Desean Jackson, Roger Staubach (yeah, I know, a Cowboy but at least he was a naval hero first!) and great restaurant gift certs and plenty of beautiful jewelry and other items for the ladies. Plus several chairs decorated by Prep art students and much, much more. Any sports fan coming down to Hawktion tomorrow night will not leave disappointed (unless you get outbid for everything of course!). Check out all of the live auction items online.
Bill blogging again... The deadline to register online is coming quick. You have until noon today to get your response in. Walk-ins are welcome; day-of registration is $125 per person. Hard to believe but the room looks even more beautiful today than yesterday. The volunteers here last night really pulled a lot of things together...there's a house on the Bayou complete with its own alligator, there's a boat that looks like it was pulled right out of the Gulf of Mexico plus lattice that makes you think "Bourbon Street." Amazing job by the men and women who give so much time and effort to make Hawktion the best party of the year! Today, we are promoting "buy-in" items. In a nutshell, these are items that you can buy into...there is no auction. You sign your name and your bidder number and you are registered. Easy as that...no chance to get outbid! The "buy-in" items are:
- Watch the Phillies at HiFi House: watch the Phillies take on the Mets on Friday, September 23 from HiFi House's amazing showroom and theatre.
- A scavenger hunt with Prep faculty and administrators: three couples will jump into a car with a Prep teacher/administrator to scavenge around the city. After the hunt, all will gather at the Prep to determine a winner and recount the fun stories of the hunt over food and beverages!
- Mardi Gras wine tasting: Relive the spirit of your Night in the Big Easy when Mardi Gras time comes around! The food and fun of New Orleans will be recreated at a Mardi Gras Wine Tasting Party at the home of John and Sue Gillen in Media on Saturday, February 11, 2012.
- Dress down day for your son's homeroom: What kid doesn’t want to be the homeroom hero? Make your son’s hero dreams come true! For $250, your son can treat his entire homeroom to a dress down day. This will be even more appreciated as we approach those hot, late spring days! This package is open to only 10 bidders.
These special items are only available to those who "buy-in." It's an easy way to get involved with Hawktion and get great opportunities.
Bill again... Walking in this morning, I was amazed at how far along the Fieldhouse is in the process of transforming into Bourbon Street. Our Wednesday Night volunteers (this week joined by new development chief Russell Gartz) have done an amazing job. By Saturday night, I am sure even the most seasoned Cajun will think they are at home. Some more items to be highlighted...the Phour Aces, the Big Phive...whatever it is you call the Phillies pitching rotation, perhaps we can add another name to the list...YOURS! Win a chance to throw out the first pitch at a Phillies game against the Mets in August. Can't guarantee that Rich Dubee will be there to watch you throw but there's no telling who will see you on the mound! For the Eagles fans among us, we have two awesome items...both courtesy of the Moellers who are seriously hardcore Birds fans. First, join them in a tricked-out RV to a road game in either Washington or North Jersey as the Eagles take on the Redskins or the Giants. You will travel in serious comfort and there will be no doubt who you are rooting for. The other Eagles item is truly one-of-a-kind. The Moeller's have a serious Eagles room...I mean, check out the live auction tab on the Hawktion Webpage to see pictures of this room. Trust me, commercials will be welcome as you will be able to divert your attention to the many other attractions located throughout the room. You and 39 of your closest friends and family can join the Moeller's to watch the game. Also, Congressman John Runyan, former Eagle and future Prep dad (Class of 2015) will be in attendance to offer his commentary. What a day...win or lose for the Eagles (though I am sure the mood will be brighter if the Birds win). Finally, we have a great Notre Dame weekend. Nothing says college football more than ND Stadium and the Irish. Spend the weekend at a beautiful Irish condo, within view of the campus. Tickets and a tailgate all included. To check out these and all of the silent and live items, go to the Hawktion Website. Remember, there is still time to register online...we are keeping that open until tomorrow.
It's Bill again...can't get Beth to stop moving long enough to blog!
Believe it or not, there was a new live item added just last night so you are in on "Breaking News" (imagine one of htose really cool graphics that the news stations put up to alert you!)...how does a long weekend trip to Palm Beach sound? What a gorgeous place to golf, shop and relax in the sun! Thanks to Sean Rooney '80 for his donation.
Now, as they say, "There's No Business Like Show Business" and now Preppers can be a part of the big show. Be on the set in LA with the cast and crew of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," including our own Rob McElhenny '95. You know that Rob is a loyal Prepper and he will take good care of his guests from Hawktion. Then, be part of the audience for the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
More of a Letterman fan? Well, then how about this item...a two-night stay at a luxury hotel in NYC with tickets for two to be in the audience for "The Late Show with David Letterman." Sure to be on your "Top 10" list for years to come.
Prefer music? Well, we have tickets to the sold-out U2 concert, with a limo ride to and from the Linc. Also, a pre-concert feast at the Saloon in Fairmount is included.
Basically, we have the entertainment buffs covered this year. Tomorrow, we will fill you in on some awesome sports items available.
Hey, this is Bill, blogging for Beth. Well, Hawktion week has arrived and the Fieldhouse is already being transformed. I think the decorations will be epic for Saturday night...you will feel like you have transported to New Orleans without leaving North Philly!
All week long, we are highlighting great live auction items. This may be the best year of items that I can remember. Today's theme is ITALY! Highlights include a 32-room villa in Italy, courtesy of Josh Gaspero '60, perfect for a family reunion. Josh is beloved in Altomonte and any guest of his is treated like royalty. Also, learn to cook like a real EYE-talian (as my Grandmom Lucarini used to say) courtesy of our friends at Panorama in Old City. Carlo Sena '91 will take you to the Italian Market to shop for the finest authentic foods, then teach you and your friends to prepare it. After an afternoon siesta (I know that's not Italian but you get the point), the dinner and wine will flow! Can't promise you will leave speaking Italian but who knows!
Tomorrow, we will check out some amazing entertainment items and then sports. Stay tuned!
...to rsvp and win that limo ride to and from. You are going to NEED IT!!!! Imagine arriving right at the front steps. No battling with the white coat traffic guys to get you a good spot. No more haggling with the security guard over parking that family vehicle in the "Visitor Spot" NO NO NO! You are good to go and arrivin' in style! Come on, enter the foyer and check right in. There will be a glass of champagne waiting for you! (At this point, you will scratch your head and wonder if you are at the Grammy awards or 17th and Girard?????) Then you will proceed to the inner sanctum commonly know as the Kelly Field House. UNBELIEVABLE how that darn place will be decorated. Keeps getting better and better each year. And we are having more and more fun getting it all decked out! Don't believe me....well take a look! http://www.preppics.com/p948651895#h313dbe4e
Welcome friends! It has been a long time. But believe it or not, I am just as excited about Hawktion in 2011 as I was in 2010! Lucky for you. Hopefully you have gotten your invitations. If not, do not fear, just rsvp online. Could not be easier. Be sure to let us know by April 15th since any reservations received after that will be "Open Seating". AND if you get that name of yours in by the 15th, you could be the lucky winner of the limo ride to and from Hawktion. Thank you Rob D'Anjolell for that awesome donation! HOW GREAT WOULD THAT BE! Especially with this year's Hawktion...a designated driver is a MUST. Why you ask? Because the famous Ice Luge is back by popular demand! And why was it so popular ? Because we created the best "Crimson and Grey" cocktails to flow through it...imagine a wonderful concoction of Pomegranate juice (the crimson) and Grey Goose (the grey) flowing through an ice sculpture only to end up in a chilled kick butt martini glass. HEAVEN ON EARTH! Drink a couple of those and you'll be making friends with EVERYONE! Speaking of new friends....do I have a great story for you tomorrow. Pictures too! Check back then. Until tomorrow.....
