Student Initiatives and Programs

A4 Multicultural Alumni Association

A4’s mission is to advance, promote and exemplify a commitment to diversity at St. Joseph’s Prep through inclusion, advocacy and its ongoing engagement with A4 alumni and current students.

Collaborative on Racial Equity (CORE)

As a Jesuit, Catholic, urban, college preparatory school, St. Joseph's Prep is called to deeply consider issues surrounding racial and ethnic diversity in its community and then act accordingly based on this discernment. With this in mind, we are compelled to develop our students, faculty, staff, and the rest of the Prep community in our call to be a more just and equitable institution.  Our school’s mission mandates that we engage our constituents, the neighborhood and our city to reduce racial bias. We understand that earnest dialogue will catalyze this process. This conversation will necessarily be rooted in our Grad @ Grad principles, namely to be open to growth, religious, loving, intellectually competent, and committed to doing justice.

Cura Personalis Team (CPT)

The Cura Personalis Team was established to educate students and adults in our community about the Church’s understanding of the role of love and sexuality in the lives of our young men. Our charge for the Cura Personalis Team:

  • In accordance with Catholic teaching and Ignatian ideals of cura personalis, to increase emotional intelligence, acceptance, understanding and compassion within our community, including also parents of our students, regarding sexuality, sexual orientation, sexual identity and gender.
  • To further establish the school as a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our community.

Diversity Committee Board of Trustees

The Diversity Committee of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph’s Prep considers a diverse student body, faculty and staff, racially, ethnically, economically and geographically, as essential to educate Jesuit high school students and prepare them for leadership in the global environment of the 21st Century.

The Prep desires to prepare its students to interact more effectively with members of an increasingly diverse global economy and to become leaders in the institutions of the 21st Century. This goal requires a broad experience and appreciation of personal relationships in a diverse school environment created by diverse faculty, staff and students. This goal must also include a commitment to periodic modifications and/or enhancements to curricular and co-curricular components, as may be appropriate, to assist in achieving such an outcome.

No Place for Hate School

No Place for Hate®, an initiative of the Anti-Defamation League, enables schools and organizations to challenge anti-Semitism, racism and bigotry in all forms. By providing an innovative and powerful model for creating more inclusive environments, No Place for Hate aims to reduce bias and bullying, increase appreciation for diversity and build communities of respect. St. Joseph’s Prep has been a designated a No Place for Hate® School since 2010 because of our commitment to programs and initiatives that create an inclusive welcoming safe campus for all.

Taggart Cultural Series

The mission of the Taggart Cultural Series is to foster a greater awareness of and appreciation for the cultural, intellectual, artistic, and academic learning opportunities that exist beyond the curricular programs offered at St. Joseph's Prep School. It is the goal of the committee to afford the greater SJP community (students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends) frequent suitable occasions that stimulate discussion and/or debate, reinforce and enrich the Jesuit curriculum, and educate in an entertaining and provocative manner.
