The Philosophy of "mens sana in corpore sano" -- "a healthy mind in a healthy body"-- has long been a part of Prep education.
Preppers strive for excellence in athletics as well as academics. In striving for success, the members of the Prep coaching staff endeavor to instill the qualities of leadership, loyalty, and sportsmanship. The student athlete learns to cope with winning and losing; to be humble in victory, proud in defeat.
St. Joseph's Prep is a member of the Philadelphia Catholic League and District XII of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.
Each sport has its own equipment needs, etc. However, all athletes trying out for any sport must have their PIAA physical prior to any participation, even tryouts. A physical form is available by clicking here.
Yes. Not only are you allowed but our student-athletes are encouraged to play multiple sports at the Prep. More than 60 student-athletes currently participate in two or more sports.
No…actually, only a few do. The following sports have no cuts: Bowling, Crew, Cross Country, Football, Ice Hockey, Indoor/Outdoor Track, Rugby, Squash, Swimming, Ultimate, Volleyball and Wrestling.
Most of our indoor teams play on campus. Crew operates from its own boathouse (shared with Saint Joseph’s University) on Kelly Drive. Football and lacrosse play at Brady Field, located at 11th and Cecil B. Moore blocks from the Prep. For a complete list of Prep sports locations, click here.
